Instead of forcing unnecessary throws downfield, the second-year quarterback used his mobility to escape pressure and found Tony Pollard, Tyjae Spears and Wan’Dale Robinson underneath. That patience helped Tennessee sustain drives even while Jeffery Simmons and the Titans defensive front created pressure. Ward’s lone touchdown came on a beautifully placed pass to tight end Gunnar Helm in the back of the end zone. Helm secured the football and got both feet down with linebacker Cody Barton in coverage. Carnell Tate opened the scrimmage with four catches for approximately 55 yards, including three first downs.
