Titans Coach May Have Just REVEALED 2 Roster Locks Before Cutdown Day

The Tennessee Titans received two potentially important 53-man roster clues during their final regular training camp practice of 2026. Easton Freeze, who wasn't late to practice after no-showing the Titans morning show, reports from the Vanderbilt Health Football Center following Tennessee’s first practice since its 19-16 preseason victory over the Seattle Seahawks. It was also the Titans’ final standard training camp practice before Thursday’s joint practice with the Chicago Bears, Saturday’s preseason finale and Sunday’s NFL roster cutdown deadline. Titans special teams coordinator John “Bones” Fassel discussed his significant role in shaping the back end of Tennessee’s roster. General manager Mike Borgonzi and head coach Robert Saleh will make the final decisions, but Fassel’s evaluation carries considerable weight when the Titans determine which reserve players can provide value on game days. Two names stood out during Fassel’s media availability: linebacker Dorian Mausi and running back Julius Chestnut. Mausi was claimed by Tennessee after being released by the Minnesota Vikings last season and quickly became an important member of the Titans’ special teams operation. Although Mausi did not practice Tuesday, Easton explains why his special teams value should make him a strong favorite to survive Sunday’s cuts, assuming there is no significant injury concern. Chestnut may have strengthened his position even more following another productive preseason performance. Fassel praised Chestnut’s leadership, reliability, special teams contributions and ability to provide depth at running back. After hearing Fassel’s comments, Easton has changed his outlook on Chestnut’s chances of making the final roster. Could Tennessee carry four or even five running backs? The answer could depend upon Kalel Mullings’ health and whether the Titans use a short-term injured reserve designation. Mullings remained absent Tuesday, while veteran center Andre James and rookie defensive lineman Keldric Faulk were also not practicing. John Franklin-Myers returned, and Singleton appeared to participate in a limited capacity. Easton also explains why the Titans remain completely confident in rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate. Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll pushed back against the idea that Tate has faded during the last two weeks. Although Tate’s preseason production has been quiet and he failed to complete a catchable opportunity against Seattle, Daboll remains encouraged by Tate’s assignments, preparation, mindset and practice performance.
