Brian Daboll Reveals the Titans' BIGGEST Problem With Cam Ward

The Tennessee Titans have played six preseason drives with their starting offense, and Brian Daboll's latest comments make it clear there is still plenty of work to do before the regular season. Buck Reising breaks down what Daboll said about Cam Ward, the Titans offense and the team's biggest execution issues heading into the final week of the preseason. Daboll was asked specifically about Ward's downfield accuracy and the Titans' ability to create more plays in the 15-to-25-yard range. His answer was notable because he made it clear the problem cannot simply be placed on the quarterback. Receiver routes, pass protection and Ward's ability to execute all play a role. But that doesn't make the quarterback issue disappear. Through two preseason games, the Titans' starting offense has produced only one scoring drive across six total possessions. Ward has shown flashes, but the passing game has not consistently produced the intermediate and downfield plays the Titans will need once the regular season begins. Buck also examines the importance of the final live preseason opportunities against the Chicago Bears. Practice can help develop timing and execution, but there are certain situations that cannot truly be replicated without live competition — including pressure, contact, strip sacks and the consequences of mistakes with the football. The Titans will host Chicago for a joint practice on Thursday before the preseason finale on Saturday, Aug. 29. That gives Tennessee one final major opportunity to evaluate its offense before the regular season arrives. The bigger question isn't whether six preseason drives define Cam Ward's career. They obviously don't. The question is whether the Titans are seeing enough improvement from Ward and the rest of the offense to feel confident that the problems showing up now won't continue when the games start counting.
